The Halo scanner detects both newer chips and many older chips.
In older pets, chips can migrate down the body, so it is important to scan the entire pet. Visit a local vet clinic if you need help.

Take a clear photo of the chip number.
Look up the chip:

AAHA Microchip Lookup to identify the chip company:
Contact the first company listed and report the pet found. Continue down the list if the first company cannot locate the owner. Multiple companies may appear if the pet has had multiple owners.

Some pets are chipped but never registered to the owner. If no companies appear in the lookup results, that often means the chip was never properly registered. In some cases, the chip may still trace back to the company, shelter, rescue, or clinic that purchased it, but that does not guarantee useful owner information will be available.
Most common chips starting with:
985 – HomeAgain
982 – 24PetWatch
900 – Off-brand or harder to trace
